Moving and transport in Berlin

Fourth floor in the side wing, no lift and not a free metre outside the building: that is how a typical Berlin move begins. Our Berlin team plans carrying routes, parking and crew so that the day still runs calmly.

What matters in Berlin

Berlin period houses in Prenzlauer Berg, Friedrichshain, Kreuzberg, Neukölln or Charlottenburg have tall storeys and rarely a lift. Anyone living in the rear building or side wing also has long carrying distances through passageway and courtyard. Parking is scarce and often managed in the inner boroughs, so a no-stopping zone is practically always part of the job. Each borough is responsible for its own streets, which often means two offices for a move across the city. Young companies in Mitte and Kreuzberg change office space frequently, and many families move out to surrounding Brandenburg, to Potsdam, Falkensee or Bernau.

All moves in Berlin and Brandenburg are planned by our regional moving and transport team, scheduled from the head office in Essen. During the viewing we do not just count furniture, we walk the route from the room to the tailgate and check whether an external hoist can be set up. On request, your contact person applies for the no-stopping zones, liaises with the property managers and stays reachable until the old flat is handed over. You receive the quote at no cost and with no ties.

Focus areas

Typical jobs in Berlin

  1. Rear building and side wing

Long routes through courtyard and passageway cost time. We plan extra carriers or handling aids and protect the hallways, so there is no trouble with neighbours or the property manager.

  2. External hoist instead of stairs

Where windows and pavement allow, we lift furniture to the upper floors by external hoist. That spares the stairwell and delicate pieces such as pianos, wardrobes or sofas.

  3. Two boroughs, two applications

If the old flat is in Neukölln and the new one in Pankow, you need two no-stopping zones from two borough offices. On request we handle both applications and signage.

  4. Office moves for growing teams

Workstations, servers and files move according to a labelling plan, preferably over the weekend, so your team in Mitte or Kreuzberg is ready to work again on Monday.

FAQ

Frequent questions from Berlin

Your question is not listed? Call us or send us a message – we answer personally.

Where do I apply for a no-stopping zone in Berlin?

The road traffic authority of the borough where the zone is to be set up is responsible. The signs must be in place in good time, and vehicles parked there at that moment are noted. Allow plenty of lead time. If you like, we take care of the whole process for both addresses.

Can you manage a fifth floor without a lift?

Planning is what counts here. We deploy enough staff, rotate the carriers regularly and dismantle large furniture beforehand. If the street allows, we set up an external hoist, which may need a permit from the borough when it stands on public ground. The effort is shown openly in the quote.

Do you also move people from Berlin to the surrounding area or other cities?

Our Berlin team covers all of Brandenburg, from a house in Kleinmachnow to a flat in Oranienburg. We carry out long-distance moves too. If the destination is the Ruhr area, our Berlin team works with the head office in Essen, which knows the conditions there and prepares unloading and assembly.
