Do I need a permit for a bathroom refurbishment in a Milieuschutz area?
In social conservation areas the borough office checks whether a modernisation goes beyond a contemporary standard. Replacing an existing bathroom is mostly uncritical, whereas an additional bathroom or particularly lavish fittings may be refused. Criteria differ between boroughs. We recommend asking the urban development office before planning, and we supply the documents.
Can the wet cell in my prefabricated block flat be modernised?
Depending on the building type, the factory-made cell is removed completely and the bathroom rebuilt in drywall, or walls and floor are recoated and tiled from the inside. What matters is the condition of the cell and the connections in the service shaft, which may be common property. We clarify that with your manager beforehand.
Where does the skip go if there is no courtyard?
Usually only the kerb is left. Skips and material stores on public road space need a permit from the borough, often combined with a no-stopping zone. On request we apply for both and allow for the lead time. Alternatively we remove rubble daily in smaller loads, often the calmer solution in narrow Berlin streets.
