Tiling in Berlin
Narrow period bathrooms on timber joist floors and historic floor tiles in entrance halls make special demands on build-up and waterproofing in Berlin. Our Berlin team lays tiles, natural stone and mosaic in flats, houses and commercial spaces.

What matters in Berlin
Many bathrooms in Charlottenburg, Wilmersdorf, Prenzlauer Berg or Neukölln were fitted later into former box rooms and are long and narrow. Beneath them is usually a timber joist floor that flexes and tolerates no water, so a lightweight build-up, decoupling and seamless waterproofing must come together. Entrance halls and kitchens still have historic cement and stoneware tiles that owners like to keep. Prefabricated blocks in the east have factory-made wet cells. Hard Berlin water leaves limescale on tiles and joints, and severe winter frost attacks balcony tiling. Outside the city, detached houses with large kitchens and terraces dominate.
Berlin and Brandenburg are covered by our regional tiling team, scheduled from the head office in Essen. When measuring up, we open the floor at one point by arrangement to assess joists and fill, and discuss material, format and grout colour with you. One contact person takes you through the entire project and coordinates the work in an apartment building with the manager and neighbours. If pipes need renewing, our plumbing division does so within the same schedule. The quote costs you nothing and remains non-binding.

Typical jobs in Berlin
A safe build-up on timber joists
We plan a light, stiff base with decoupling and bonded waterproofing, test for leaks before tiling and record the result with photos before the surface is closed.
Preserving historic tiles
We gently clean old cement tiles in the hall or kitchen, replace loose or broken pieces with matching ones and regrout, so the floor keeps its character.
Smart layouts for narrow bathrooms
In a narrow period bathroom the laying plan decides the effect. Landscape formats, continuous joints and a shower at the far end make the room appear wider and calmer.
Unfazed by limescale
With hard water we recommend matt, light surfaces, few joints in the splash zone and accessible silicone joints. The shower then stays presentable with normal effort.

FAQ
Frequent questions from Berlin
Your question is not listed? Call us or send us a message – we answer personally.
Can you tile on a Berlin timber joist floor at all?
Yes, if the build-up is designed for it. The floor must not bounce noticeably, so we check joists and boards and stiffen with suitable panels where needed. Decoupling, bonded waterproofing and a flexible adhesive follow. We clarify the extra weight and the height at the door threshold with you in advance.
Can the old floor tiles in my entrance hall be saved?
In many cases, yes. It depends on whether the tiles sit firmly in their bed and how worn the surface is. We fill individual gaps with reclaimed or reproduced tiles in the same format. If large areas sound hollow, we discuss with you whether lifting and relaying the originals makes sense.
How noisy will it be for my neighbours in the building?
Chiselling off old tiles is the loudest part. We schedule this work within the hours allowed by the house rules and noise regulations and announce it with a notice in the building. Stairwell and lift are covered, rubble is removed daily, and the courtyard stays usable for the other residents.
