Tiling in Essen
Small internal bathrooms from the post-war years, terraces in constant rain and floors that may move in a former mining region: good tiling in Essen takes more than a straight joint. Our expert team plans every surface from the substrate up.

What matters in Essen
In the apartment blocks of Frohnhausen, Holsterhausen, Altenessen or Steele, bathrooms are often internal, windowless and very compact. The old tiles there usually sit in a thick mortar bed, which makes removal laborious. Across the Ruhr area, settlement from former mining can crack screed and tiling, so decoupling and movement joints deserve special attention. Frequent rain and repeated freeze-thaw cycles put stress on terraces and balconies. Bredeney and Kettwig ask for natural stone and large formats, while restaurants in Rüttenscheid need slip-resistant floors that are easy to clean.
Tiling projects in the Ruhr area are managed by our head office on Ruhrallee in Essen. On request, the expert team of the division measures up on site, checks flatness, moisture and load capacity of the substrate and discusses format, joint pattern and laying direction with you. From that appointment on, one contact person is there for you and, in a bathroom refurbishment, also sequences plumbing, electrics and drywall from our other divisions. Your quote is free and non-binding, with separate items for removal, waterproofing and laying.

Typical jobs in Essen
Making small internal bathrooms feel larger
A calm joint pattern, light large-format tiles and a level-access shower visually open up the typical Essen bathroom. You see the laying plan before the first tile is cut.
Decoupling in a former mining area
Where the substrate moves, we separate tiling and screed with decoupling mats and carry existing movement joints through exactly, so stresses do not show up as cracks.
Terraces for wet weather
Falls, waterproofing, drainage and frost-resistant porcelain belong together. Rainwater then runs off instead of standing under the tiles and lifting them in the next frost.
Floors for restaurants and businesses
For kitchens, counters and washrooms in Rüttenscheid or the city centre we lay slip-resistant tiles with tight joints and coved skirtings that can be cleaned thoroughly during operation.

FAQ
Frequent questions from Essen
Your question is not listed? Call us or send us a message – we answer personally.
My house stands in a former mining area – do tiles crack sooner there?
Ground movement can transfer to screed and tiling. Before laying, we check existing cracks and joints and decide whether crack resin, a decoupling mat or additional movement joints are needed. Later cracking can never be ruled out entirely, but a decoupled build-up absorbs far more stress than rigid laying.
Which tiles last on a terrace in the Ruhr area?
Frost-resistant porcelain with very low water absorption and a slip-resistant surface is suitable. Even more important than the tile is the build-up beneath: adequate falls, working waterproofing and drainage that carries water away. We look at your terrace or balcony and propose a build-up that fits the height of the door threshold.
Do you also tile in Mülheim, Oberhausen or Bochum?
From the Essen head office our tilers work all over the Ruhr area. Measuring and advice take place at your premises, whether it is a bathroom in Mülheim an der Ruhr, a kitchen in Oberhausen or a commercial unit in Bochum. The contact person remains the same for the whole project.
